Tory Remainer Grieve ‘under deselection pressure from pro-Brexit members’

by Westmonster

Hardline Remainer MP Dominic Grieve appears to be coming under further threat of deselection from furious pro-Brexit grassroot Conservatives.

A motion of no confidence was passed against him in March by 182 to 131.

In 2017 Grieve wrote that the “decision of the electorate in the Referendum must be respected” and that “I accept the result of the 2016 Referendum”.

But by 2019 he was saying: “I continue to believe that a further public consultation through a referendum offers the best way forward.” Not hard to see why local Conservatives are hacked off with his full on Remoaner stance.

EDIT: We have already had a “Referendum”! The adage by Albert Einstein comes to mind when he said that the’ definition of insanity’ – was doing the same thing over and over and over again – and expecting a different result”!

Since then, 66 local Tory members have sent a petition calling for the selection of a new candidate, seeking a Special General Meeting.

The motion being put forward, as reported by The Telegraph, reads: “The Beaconsfield Constituency Conservative Association at its Annual General Meeting on 29th March 2019 did not express full confidence in the Rt. Hon Dominic Grieve MP.

“We therefore resolve that he should not be the Conservative Parliamentary candidate for the Constituency of Beaconsfield at the next General Election and the Association should immediately start the process of selecting a new candidate.”

Grassroot Conservatives have had enough of hardline Remainer MPs doing their best to thwart Brexit.
